Mungrisdale to Caldbeck
A good days walking over the fells ending at the delightful Oddfellows Arms pub in Caldbeck. We (John, George, Roger & I) took a variation on the suggested route two by climbing up Bannerdale Crags before getting back on track at Bowscale Fell.
The Caldew River crossing was interesting but we managed without having to wade. My walking poles made the crossing 13 times as they were thrown back to help others cross (Guys, thanks for the pint in recognition of that). One of the highlights was new born lambs that had been dropped in a field. The farmer was collecting them to put with the other ewes in the lambing area.
The Jennings Ale was most welcome in the Oddfellows Arms where there was a party atmosphere, so much so that I had to leave my car in Newton Aycliffe and beg a lift from Sheila to get home!
