Fund raising event for Teesdale and Weardale Search and Mountain Rescue Team
Fancy raising money to help one of our regions mountain rescue teams and having a spiffing good walk into the process.
The Three Rivers Challenge is being held on Saturday September 21 in Teesdale. The walk is a 21 km / 13 mile linear walk starting at the Wynch Bridge near Bowlees and Finishing at Barnard Castle, taking in along the way some spectacular scenery as it passes the rivers Balder, Lune and Tees. The distance is long enough to be a challenge but not that long where you need to embark on specific training and so is suitable for most abilities.
The entry fee is £15 which includes coach transport from Barnard Castle to the start of the walk and a £5 donation to Teesdale and Weardale Search and Mountain Rescue Team. The event promises to be quite popular and so early entry is recommended. See the event website at www.discoverdurhamdales.co.uk
Wainwright Pennine Charity Walk 28 September 2013

[Registered Charity No. 1115300]
A MOMENTOUS JOURNEY
We are looking for experienced walkers to undertake a very special fundraising journey on 28 September 2013.
On the 25th September 1938 Alfred Wainwright, the well-known Lakeland Fells writer, set out on his 247 miles long Pennine Journey.
To celebrate the completion of the waymarking of the route it is intended that the complete route be walked in a day. To this end a number of Charities have been invited to participate in this historic event and ECCDS has been allocated two sections of the route [10 walkers for each section]. See this link for full information:

Weekend Away at Hawes – Friday 21st to Sunday 23rd June 2013
This year the camping, caravanning, B and B weekend away will be in the Yorkshire Dales near Hawes and centred around Shaw Ghyll Farm Camping and Caravan site. The site is just ¾ mile from the Green Dragon pub (good choice of real ales) and 2 miles from Hawes. Cost is approx £5/single tent per nt; £20/caravan. Electrical hook-ups and shower/toilet block available. A £5 deposit will be required from those reserving a place and bookings will close after the club walk on Saturday 23rd February. Shaw Ghyll is a compact site with limited tent space so I’m afraid it will be “first come, first served”. Those wishing to stay B&B or Guesthouse have lots of choices available – in Hawes or Appersett, but they should make their own arrangements. Shared transport available for campers. Deposits to Alan Holmes or Barry Wilkinson as soon as possible please. See this sheet for more information.
