Weekend away in Reeth 1st – 3rd July

Reeth

Hi, for circulation a quick update on the club weekend away.

This years event is a scaled down version to previous ones, as far as I’m aware there are 5 staying at the Orchard caravan park and two at Grinton Youth Hostel, no information on anybody staying in B&B’s.

No barbecue on Friday evening, but a get together at a pub in Reeth. Saturday is walk day after which a meal has been arranged for 7pm at the Bridge inn Grinton for 12 people under the club name.

Important – Pre-ordering of food is preferable from the attached menu. Please send menu choices to eddyadam@uwclub.net

For those feeling up for it a Sunday morning walk can be arranged.

Any further questions or late bookings please let me know.

2015 Camping Weekend in Gothland

The AFWC 2015 Camping Weekend at Goathland was brilliant. Friday night saw Geoff’s BBQ in full swing with food provided by everyone and especially Eddy who kindly provided extra beer! (even the 10 million midges enjoyed it!)

Saturday night was spent in the Mallyan Spout Hotel and on Sunday some took to the Roman Road, some to Danby and some of us to Beck Hole with Lunch in the quaint pub there. A good time was had by all!

WEEKEND AWAY: Kettlewell, Wharfedale 13th – 15th June 2014

This year the Club’s “weekend away” will be centred on the picturesque village of Kettlewell in beautiful Wharfedale in the Yorkshire Dales.

The event will run from Friday 13th to Sunday 15th June and will feature organised walks on both the Saturday and the Sunday, as well as social “partying” after each day’s walk in the local hostelry(s). The initial get-together will be at the Bluebell Inn, 7–8 pm on the Friday. Transport is NOT provided so please make your own travel arrangements!

A range of accommodation is available in Kettlewell village, including rooms with comfortable en-suite facilities, chiefly at the Bluebell Inn and the Racehorses Hotel but there are several other GH’s, B&B’s and Self Catering places around the village; there’s also a Youth Hostel plus basic camping at the “turn up & pitch” site nearby the village (only £5 per night). Regarding accommodation, please make your own arrangements! The village website: www.kettlewellvillage.co.uk is quite useful but if further help is needed in finding a place to stay, please feel free to contact Alan on 01325 488225 who’ll be happy to assist.

If the weather behaves (why shouldn’t it?) this promises to be a cracking good weekend in a location famed for its dramatic scenery, with excellent walking in prospect – and in the friendliest of company!

Weekend Away at Hawes – Friday 21st to Sunday 23rd June 2013

This year the camping, caravanning, B and B weekend away will be in the Yorkshire Dales near Hawes and centred around Shaw Ghyll Farm Camping and Caravan site. The site is just ¾ mile from the Green Dragon pub (good choice of real ales) and 2 miles from Hawes. Cost is approx £5/single tent per nt; £20/caravan. Electrical hook-ups and shower/toilet block available. A £5 deposit will be required from those reserving a place and bookings will close after the club walk on Saturday 23rd February. Shaw Ghyll is a compact site with limited tent space so I’m afraid it will be “first come, first served”. Those wishing to stay B&B or Guesthouse have lots of choices available – in Hawes or Appersett, but they should make their own arrangements. Shared transport available for campers. Deposits to Alan Holmes or Barry Wilkinson as soon as possible please. See this sheet for more information.

CHANGES TO Camping, B&B weekend 22-24 June 2012

CHANGES TO Camping, B&B weekend 22-24 June

It seems that the clubs ‘weekend away’ in the lakes, at Lorton has a serious problem! It well nigh impossible to find accommodation in the area because it is fully booked, the reason being that there is a high profile wedding taking place that same weekend and another major event in the vicinity too.

Geoff Jackson has suggested a weekend at Robin Hoods Bay instead, which seems to be an admirable solution to the problem!

Those interested going to Robin Hoods Bay should make use of the website www.robin-hoods-bay.co.uk to find accommodation, the focus for the stay being Hooks House Farm camp site above the bay. Fylingthorpe is a short walk away too and the website covers B&B’s in the whole area. The date is exactly the same, i.e. Friday 22nd to Sunday 24th June.

Please let anyone interested but not on email know about the change. An announcement will be made at the next walk.

Best wishes & sorry about the change,

Barry
